Ammar bin Yasir, role model when the friends of the Prophet were hesitant

ARRAHMAH.CO.ID -

In a rowdy political atmosphere, often our hearts are forced to choose to side with certain camps. Even though it is not necessarily by taking sides, we choose the truth.

Instead of choosing and upholding the truth, no less we are forced to abandon healthy reason by being a blind defender of the stronghold that we defend or become an invader of opponents. Whereas from the beginning, we wanted to choose the truth and establish mere goodness.

A more complicated atmosphere had befallen the noble friends of the Prophet Muhammad. But there are always signs for elected people, such as the story of Ammar bin Yasir which is used as a sign of where they should take sides in the Shiffin war. Who and why Ammar?

Once, in the atmosphere of the construction of the Nabawi mosque, the Messenger of Allah and his companions worked together to build a mosque to be used for worship in Medina. Aside from being a place of worship, the mosque is expected to be the center of religious learning activities and the spread of Islam as well as the headquarters to discuss the strategy of publicity.

In that mosque the command will be given by the greatest leader in human history, the Prophet Muhammad. In the construction of the mosque, some work that requires special expertise is done by experts. Like Al Yamani Al Hanafi who is in charge of stirring the soil mixture.

"I stir (mix) the soil, then as if my admonition made the Messenger of Allah amaze, and said: 'Let al-Yamaami al-Hanafi stir the ground, because he is the most between you in the matter of (dough) the land. Ammar was the son of Yasir and Sumayyah, they were all of their origin were slaves with a strong spirit in defending the faith.

The beginning of Ammar's Islam was when he heard rumors of the spread of Islam. Ammar then went to the carrier of the treatise at the house of Arqam bin Abi Arqam and made a shahada under the noble hand of the Prophet Muhammad. After returning home, he then invited his mother and father to follow in his footsteps. The welcome style, they became a blessed Muslim family.

Knowing the Islamic family, the Banu Makhzum tortured them beyond humanity. They were dried in the scorching sun of the desert, dressed in iron clothing, whipped alternately by the Banu Makhzum, stretched while being crushed by a large rock and a variety of very painful torments. Because he never departed from his belief, Abu Jahl furiously thrust the spear into Ammar's Sumayyah's body.

Sumayyah became the first martyr to fight for the Islamic creed. Yasir's father Ammar followed later. At its peak, they burned Yasir's body, continued to torture him until one day Yasir subconsciously followed the orders of the Banu Makhzum to praise their gods. With regret Yasir conveyed the matter to the Messenger of Allah and came down the revelation of Q.S An Nahl 106.

When in the process of building the Prophet's Mosque the Prophet saw Ammar always doubling his burden from others, for example in carrying bricks. So that one day when he saw Ammar carrying a large stone, the Messenger of Allah wiped the dust over Ammar's head, saying, "Unfortunately the Sumayyah child, he will be killed by dissidents."

At the same time, the wall at Ammar's side collapsed. The friends thought Ammar had died because of being hit by a wall and the Messenger of Allah lamented him. Until the Messenger of Allah said, "No, Ammar is okay, he will only be killed by dissidents." On the other hand Ammar related that the Messenger of Allah said to him that his last meal was a glass of milk.

From here when the Shiffin war broke out between the Caliph Ali bin Abi Talib and Governor Muawiyah ibn Abi Shufyan. When all friends are confused about making choices where they should take sides, then they wait for where Ammar bin Yasir will take sides. Because they believe where the parties that Ammar defends, then that's where the truth and validity are. Also vice versa.

This was mainly because of the words of the prophet above, also because of some of the events experienced by Ammar. For example when Ammar disagreed with Khalid bin Walid and the Messenger of Allah knew that he said, "Who is hostile to Ammar, then he is hostile to Allah. Whoever hates Ammar, then he is hated by Allah. "Khalid also apologized to Ammar.

Regarding the virtues of Ammar was also mentioned," Ammar's self was filled with faith to his spine. "Or also the Prophet said," Examples and follow Abu Bakr Umar after my death, and take guidance from Ammar for guidance. "

In the roar of Shiffin and the confusion of friends, Ammar bin Yasir who had reached the age of 93 years, suddenly was prepared to bring war equipment and approach Ali's army bin Abi Talib.

So the public also knew that Ali was the one who was on the validity. Indeed Ammar was not there because of fanaticism, but realized that Ali was the leader of the Muslims who had the right to receive Bai'at and was defended. As a legitimate leader, he must be obeyed. So many of the friends who followed in his footsteps arrived at Ali's side.

In the Battle of Shiffin Muawiyah always avoided encounters with Ammar, they feared their swords would harm Ammar and cause them to become dissidents. Malang could not be denied, a group of troops from Sham who did not know the words of the Prophet, managed to injure and kill Ammar until he was martyred. But this clearly does not make us worthy of denouncing Muawiyah whose fadhilah is mentioned in many of the hadiths of Nabawi. Hopefully this will be a lesson for us to carefully take sides and think repeatedly in acting.
